UV radiation from sun is another big enemy to our delicate skin. Exposure under UV radiations (especially without proper sun care) damages our skin by damaging protein fibres, thickening the epidermis and causing skin cancer. Besides, heat from the sun also causes dry and sensitive skin.

Other than heat from the sun, heat from the general environmental (e.g. central heating) may lead to water evaporation from the skin. On the other hand, cold air from outdoor and air conditioning is also dry and dehydrating. Such moisture loss is unable to be compensated by skin’s normal sebum and moisture production. Therefore, the resulted skin may be parched, flaky and cracked.

Other than external factor, internal factor such as hormone may also be an enemy of our skin. Production of sebum (natural oil) is affected by hormone. The moisture level of skin is also affected by hormone, Oestrogen which is a natural humectant of skin. As Oestrogen decreases with age, skin sebum and moisture decrease. Natural sebum may also be stripped by poor skincare products. This leaves your skin irritated and scratchy.
