Failure To Handle Mental And Physical Stress May Lead To Early Demise.

If someone you love or you are a “worry-wart”, reading the rest of this article may prevent several deadly diseases and add years to your life. Allow me to explain. Why some people are healthy and others get sick has been a researched and heavily debated topic for a long, long time. Some give almost all the credit to genes. Basically you are pre-programmed at birth. Mother nature has dealt you a certain “hand” and that’s it. You will either be healthy, or sick, and there is nothing much you can do about it.

Let’s take for example, the “cancer gene.” Supporters of this philosophy commonly use this example as proof: One person is young, eats all the right food and exercises and still gets cancer or has a massive heart attack. Yet, someone else eats junk, smokes, drinks and never exercised a day in their life and lives to be 95. If cancer is “in your genes,” you’re supposedly doomed. If not, you’re pretty lucky.

Funny thing is you often hear these people say that you can walk out of your house and get hit by a bus tomorrow as an excuse to completely neglect their physical condition and future. Others don’t give genes much credit at all. These are 2 extremes. They say it’s all how you live your life and take care of yourself. And then there are those somewhere in between. To them, both genes and how you live your life are important factors.

Their argument is that the youthful man or girl that took care of himself or herself and still got sick would have gotten sick sooner. And, the 99 year-old may have lived even longer if he or she took care of himself or herself. Obviously, all this is something to think about. Genes obviously have something to do with our potential. But by how much is it? And is it as limiting as many once thought? The simple fact that our average life span is much different today than it was a century ago should tell you something. There are factors that affect our lifespan and help determine if we live those years healthy and happy or sick and miserable. Which you decide is important.

In an April 5, 2007 issue of Science Daily, there is a broad consensus that there are five basic personality traits that everyone can have. These five personality traits that are exhibited are agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, emotional stability and openness to experience. There are also sub-categories. Two of these traits which are emotional stability and conscientiousness appear to be directly linked to your health and how long you may live. How is this possible? In psychology, the lack of emotional stability is called “neuroticism.” In other words, it’s a person’s tendency towards “hand wringing and negative thinking.” It is believed by many that high levels of neuroticism are inherited and such people do not handle stress well at all. They are often moody, anxious and uncomfortable in public settings. Studies have also shown a correlation to increased mortality in these types of individuals.

So, if neuroticism is an inherited characteristic and leads to health problems and increased mortality, are some people simply pre-programmed to be unhealthy and die young? This may have some truth to it. According to the April 5, 2007 issue of Science Daily: “Mroczek decided to explore this idea. Using a standard measure of neuroticism, he tracked more than 1,600 men over 12 years, recording not only how neurotic they were at the start, but also whether they got more or less neurotic over time. He also looked at mortality risk for these same men over an 18-year span. As reported in the May issue of Psychological Science, those who increased over time in neuroticism was a ticket to an early grave. In other words, these men–all middle age or older to begin with–did not grow old gracefully. They likely got more and more stressed, worried or fretful, and this downward spiral increased their risk for dying, mostly from cancer and heart disease. The good news in all of this is that men with a fussy temperament, if they managed for whatever reason to calm down a bit over time, had survival rates similar to those of emotionally steady men.”

So what’s the big lesson here for everyone? First, it seems pretty clear your approach does a whole heck of a lot more than just affect your success in commerce! Several studies show the way you think can have a deep impact on how healthy or sick you are. Namely diseases like tumor and cardiac disease in people. We don’t think anybody knows 100% for sure how this happens. It makes sense that stress (and the way you handle it) produces chemicals that suppress the immune system. This will have countless detrimental effects like aging and more.

But the real point here is: WHO CARES? Who really cares exactly how all this works on the cellular level? The bottom line is: it happens. Negative thinking, a lot of it, over an extended period of time will probably age you, make you sick and take years off your life. And, an even more important point: Changing the way you think and handle stress can stop the process. In other words, being a natural born “worry-wart”…

How do you learn to deal with stress if you are a natural born “worry-wart?” The first thing is to realize NOTHING is ever as good or bad as it seems. And always change the things you can and forget about the things you can’t. Besides that, routine exercise programs and meditation have both been shown to reduce stress. Maybe if we start enjoying this wonderful life a little – it will get even better and we will get more of it! You can change the way you handle stress and reduce the negative effects. At that very moment, you were wide awake, stronger than usual and could run like an Olympic track star! But what happens shortly afterward? You crash… right? You come back down and feel exhausted. Anger Management And Spousal Violence.

How does anger management play a role in domestic violence? Simply put, most people that abuse their spouse in this type of situation, are angry due to an antisocial disorder lying deep in their mind. Anger is one of the leading symptoms of personality disorder, including paranoia, schizophrenia, schizoid, antisocial, psychopathic, histrionic and sociopathic personalities.

Many people that are abusive in relationships have anti-social personalities. The anti-social personality type of person often attacks when he or she is drunk or under the influence of some drug or other. This is not true in all instances of course, but it is true in most circumstances. Anti-social personality types often disregard rules and regulations and usually feel that they are authorized to do so. Anti-social personality types are control freaks and if you do not conform to their authority, they often show their anger in a controlling or violent way.

Anti-social types will often humiliate, intimidate, brutally physically abuse and mentally belittle their spouse, but the domestic abuse does not usually stop there. This type of individual has never proven to be likely to respond to anger management techniques. In other words, men that batter their wives will usually continue to do so until someone gets seriously injured. It is not wise to get involved with this type of person, as there is rarely any hope at all of them controlling their anger. This type will often beat a spouse, until they only want to kill them. This means someone could die, since this sort of person will become angrier and angrier as the years pass and will rarely seek anger management help with their domestic violence.

Even if he or she does get anger management help for domestic violence, it often fails. It is not recommended to start a relationship with this type of person. The signs are an unkempt appearance or wild expressions, laughing for no apparent purpose, laughing in a situation where a person was injured, outbursts of anger for no reason et cetera. This type of person is superficial and will often lead you to believe that he or she is a model for society, when behind closed doors the brute appears.

Of course, hate is the underlying cause of this person’s rage, and hatred has been proven to kill. Often deep-seated jealousy also underlies the anger issues within these types of people. Many of these angry people take drugs, like cocaine, crack, marijuana and others. They often exceed the safety limit of alcohol consumption and this only increases the chances of them flying off the handle.

An example of bad anger management and domestic violence can be seen in a small town called Dowagiac in Michigan, a man attempted to kill several women but was still allowed to go free. Little anger management help was provided to this person and often his furious attacks were simply because he felt that he could not control his victims. The victims did not get any justice and a few even believed that they could change his angry ways.

Today, he is sitting in the county gaol on a number of charges, including assault of a police officer and a hit and run. The police, according to witnesses, claim that the perpetrator had a weapon and was drunk when he fled in order to elude arrest and marijuana was found in his vehicle. This person had a continuous history of brutality but the justice system let those victims down, which led to more anger management problems.

Another example of bad anger management is in borderline personality types. These people, when feeling alone, will attack others. Sometimes they are physically abusive, but most of the time they are verbally and mentally abusive. The partner has only to go to work, say, and when he or she returns home, they will be accused of having done something terrible.

The abusive person might even call the workplace of the spouse numerous times to verify that he or she has not run off with someone else. This is another type of angry person that rarely recovers, and like the antisocial personality types, these types are just as dangerous and manipulative.

Paranoid types are also dangerous and manipulative but their anger can never be predicted. In most cases, these types act on voices perceived to be inside or outside their head. Like the antisocial types, the paranoid type rarely has justifiable reason for their behaviour. In most cases, it is merely a control issue. This means that if the victim is uncontrollable he or she will react angrily and violently.
