Water and Beauty

April 1st, 2011

Water is essential to skin and body health. There are so many different types of water such as purified water, distilled water, mineral water, etc. Are all these water good for us? What are their differences? How do we choose the right type of water from them?

The purest type of water is purified water which has all the impurities removed. The impurities may be removed by many methods including deionization and distillation. Purified water helps regulate body metabolism and nourish skin because it has high solubility and appetence to body cells. But, people may lack trace elements for prolonged drinking of purified water because these elements are removed during the distillation and deionization process.

Electrolyzed water is produced by water electrolysis. Some believed that electrolyzed water fights free radicals which cause skin aging. Though free radicals may be destroyed during electrolysis, there is not much free radical in water indeed. Electrolyzed water does reduce the number of free radicals in test tube experiments, but there is no prove that the same will happen in human body.

Glacier water is fresh and uncontaminated because of the natural source of glacier ice. Other than freshness, glacier water contains large amount of natural elements such as lithium, strontium and metasilicic acid. The element amount from 1.5 liter of glacier water is sufficient for a daily requirement for an adult. Other than natural elements, glacier water also helps increase skin elasticity and facilitates blood circulation.

Mineral water can be easily found in supermarket. Such bottled water can be natural or artificial ones. The bottled mineral water is usually artificial with only several types of minerals (usually potassium and magnesium) added. Therefore, artificial mineral water is really difficult to achieve the mineral balance of the natural ones.

Mineral water is believed to be good for skin health because of its high silica content. Silica helps strengthen spongy cells and elastin fibers. This prevents wrinkle formation. It can be drunk or use externally (cleansing and moisturizing) for beauty purpose.

Tips for Healthy Skin

March 17th, 2011

We have forgotten the importance of moisture and nutrients from our diet in the overflowing of skincare products. In fact, moisture and nutrients from our diet are the most valuable and natural skincare products. With proper control on our diet, it saves us a lot of money for expensive skincare products.

Human bodies require water (or moisture). Water is not only important for maintaining body functions, it is also the most effective anti aging substance for our skin. Skin without sufficient moisture often suffer a lot of different skin problems. In addition, the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor areas causes moisture loss from our skin. Therefore, we should hydrate our skin regularly.

The easiest way to supply water or moisture to cells (skin cells) is drinking water. Moisture can be obtained from foods that we eat instead of water alone. Rice, Pasta, meat, vegetable and fruit contain large amount of water (moisture). For example, vegetable and fruits contain approximately 70 percent of water. You may obtain 300 to 400 ml of water from 500 grams of vegetable and fruit.

Water or moisture intake to body may be lost easily. Therefore, we need to find ways to lock them up. Other than skincare products, the stratum corneum is the most effective and natural moisture lock. It has natural moisturizing factors and hydroxide radical for retaining moisture. Therefore, it is important not to excessively remove stratum corneum, skin’s outermost layer with exfoliators too often.

Skin dryness is caused by both epidermis hydropenia and dermis hydropenia. Hydropenia in dermis is often a result of aging, health and emotion problems. This situation may be improved by developing healthy habits. Hydropenia in epidermis is often caused by improper skincare procedures. These may include cleansing face with hot water and insufficient sun care.

According to medical researches, laugh helps soothe anxiety and other emotion. Therefore, it is good to maintain happiness when applying skincare products. This helps the absorption of nutrients.

Propolis-An Excellent Skin Food

March 1st, 2011

Many of you have heard about the functions of honey, royal jelly and even bee wax. These are products from honey bees and they are good for health and skin. Actually, there is at least one more product form honey bees. Though propolis is less common compared to honey, royal jelly and bee wax, it is a luxurious supplement for skin.

Rein, bee wax, bee pollen and bee secretion are mixed to form propolis. Rein and bee wax comprise 85 percent of propolis. The remaining 15 percent includes 10 percent of essential oil and 5 percent of bee pollen. Propolis is good for health and skin because it contains large amount of amino acids. There are 30 essential amino acids (38 essential amino acids in total) found in propolis. In addition, propolis prevents bacteria growth.

Propolis is luxurious and has been proved to be good for skin and health. Propolis contains more than 50 different types of flavonoids. Flavonoid promotes skin health by facilitating blood circulation, decomposing pigments and preventing skin aging. Besides, propolis contains almost all kinds of vitamins, especially vitamin P (in rutin), which strengthen cell walls.

Resin is the most abundant component in propolis. Resin is largely made of collagen and elastin. About one third of the proteins in our body are collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are important substances in the growth of skin cells, blood vessels, muscles, bone and teeth. It also helps hydrate skin, facilitate collagen synthesis and rejuvenate skin cells.

Fatty acids and ester of high quality are the main components of Bee wax. Bee was is often included in skincare product because it has high efficacy in reducing wrinkles. Bee wax helps remove dead skin by reducing its attaching power to epidermis, leaving skin wrinkle, acne and pigment free.

Skin Whitening Injection

November 19th, 2010

Cosmetic injection like Botox and Hyaluronic acid is very popular among women all over the world. Whitening injection is a popular way of skin whitening in Asian countries recently. This is an instant and fast way to achieve lighter complexion. Being a fan of beauty product, it is time to understand more about this whitening injection.

In general, whitening injection is largely composed of anti-oxidizing components like Vitamin C, Glutathione and Transamin. These components provide functions like detoxification, melanin control and metabolism facilitation, etc, and therefore are effective in brightening skin complexion. Some of these components are combined with herbal extracts like Ginko extract for more effective results.

Similar to Botox and Hyaluronic acid injection, whitening injection is not permanent. It works with its oxidizing power in a way of melanin control. As, melanin is continuously produced by skin cells for skin protection, you will have your original complexion returned after a period of time. Therefore, sun care is extremely important in order to maintain a longer effect of such whitening injection.

Though whitening injection is getting more and more popular in Asian countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore through the effort of advertisements, there is no strict standard and control over such injection posed by the local governments. These injections can be done in privately owned clinics or beauty salons. Of course, these clinics and beauty salons claim that the injection is completely safe. In addition, the price of such injection varies quite a lot from $750 to $1,200.

Though there are some testimonies for the effectiveness of such whitening injection, it is not highly recommended by skincare and cosmetic experts. Many experts doubt about the safety and effectiveness of whitening injection. They are unsure if such injection contains steroid hormone, which may result in inflammation and dependence for a regular and prolonged injection.

Instead of getting a whitening injection into your bodies, experts suggest eating oxidizing foods into your bodies for a natural oxidizing effect. Foods like grapes, blueberries and tomatoes are good and cheap anti-oxidizing agents that are easily available. The Vitamin C and anti-oxidizing agents in these foods help fight free radicals and skin aging problems. In addition to internal method, external methods like applying whitening essences and masks are effective in getting bright and blemish free skin.

Causes And Solutions Of Spots And Freckles

November 15th, 2010

Pressure causes spots and freckles. When a person is under pressure, his or her body secretes adrenaline to fight against the pressure. When a person is under pressure for a long time, the normal body metabolism is affected. This slows down the nutrient supply to skin and therefore pigment cells are active which then lead to formation of spots and freckles. Therefore, you should give yourself regular breaks of at least 10 minutes when you are under pressure.

Other than abnormal metabolism, dark spots are resulted because of malfunction of ovaries. Ovaries control secretion of certain hormones. When it is unable to function normally, hormonal disorder may be resulted. Hormonal disorder increases the activities of pigment cells and causes the formation of dark spots and freckles. In order to prevent malfunction of ovaries, you should maintain a healthy diet and life style.

UV radiations are the main external causes of spots and freckles. Skin cells produce melanin (dark pigments) to protect our skin under UV lights. Such melanin accumulates at the most sensitive areas of your skin. It is important to apply sun care products with at least SPF15 every day. If you apply sun care products with SPF 30 or higher, you should wash your face thoroughly after 2 to 3 hours as these high SPF sun care products may irritate your skin.

Skincare products are products that are supposed to care for your skin. But, some skincare products contain irritating ingredients which actually irritate your skin. When skin is irritated, skin cells produce melanin again to protect the skin. Such melanin when exposed under sun will cause the formation of dark spots and freckles. Therefore, when choosing skincare and cosmetic products, you should pay attention to their mildness. You may also choose those that are suitable for sensitive skin.

Facial cleansing is the daily skincare procedure of many people, but this daily procedure may also give rise to dark spots. Though facial cleansing may not directly lead to formation of dark spots, it certainly does when you cleanse your face improperly. Cleansing face too often or with too much force may irritate skin and leads to the production of melanin again which causes dark spots formation.

You should choose a mild facial cleanser which has a PH value between 4.5 to 6.5. You should not cleanse your face more than three times a day. Use warm water instead of hot and cold water to cleanse your face. Gently massage and thoroughly rinse your face. Apply facial toner immediately after cleansing your face.

Common Mistakes In Acne Treatments

October 28th, 2010

Acne outbreak is really a problem to many of you as it affects your appearance and confidence. There are many different ways for curing of acne outbreak, but you may find them not effective. Such ineffectiveness may be associated to your wrong concepts on the curing methods. You should read the following information if you acne outbreak is a continuous problem for you.

Have you heard of hormonal acne? I know quite a lot of you have already heard about the concept of hormonal acne. That is acne outbreak caused by hormonal disorder. Though it is a common term when it comes to hormonal acne, it is indeed not that common as a cause of acne outbreak tough. Hormonal disorder may be more commonly found in women at their menopause. But, it is not very likely for a normal person, especially for teenagers at puberty to have hormonal disorder.

If you are taking hormone as your acne therapy, you may find such hormone effective. But, it can be an illusion as hormone can reduce inflammation. When the inflammation of acnes is reduced, you may think the hormone is effective. Actually, the underlying problem of acne outbreak may not be inflammation but clogging pores and excessive sebum secretion. Therefore, the hormone is not going to work forever and you will see acne outbreak again quickly.

The effect of taking antibiotics for acne curing may be similar but slightly more effective than hormonal treatment. You may find acne outbreak come back, though not as frequent as hormonal treatment. Antibiotics cure acne outbreak by killing the acne causing bacteria. But, it is impossible to kill all the bacteria that your skin is exposed to and therefore, there is always a possibility of acne outbreak. Besides, as the bacteria will adapt to the same antibiotic and the effect of such antibiotic may decrease over time.

People with acne outbreak may wash their faces more frequently in order to keep them clean. In fact, the main cause of acne outbreak may not be an unclean face but the thick horny layer which clogs your pores. Washing your face too frequently may remove too much natural sebum and your brain may send a message to the sebaceous glands for even more sebum secretion.

Finally, I have heard from people having acne outbreak and hoping to cure such outbreak with UV radiations or sunlight. Though it is believed that UV radiations can kill bacteria, it may not be an effective way to kill the acne causing bacteria. On the other hand, you may have a lot of skin problems like dryness, fine lines and damaged follicular walls resulted.

Latest Development Of Skin Care

October 27th, 2010

Recently, DNA skincare products are one of the hottest beauty topics. DNA products are skincare products which repair DNA in human cells and hence improve skin conditions. As the DNA in human cells face continuous damages from external environment and human life styles, DNA repairing is definite a new trend in fight skin aging problem in foreseeable future.

Skin cells are able to undergo self-recovery during our sleep normally. But, when DNA of these skin cells are damaged by UV radiations, pollutions and stresses, the DNA loses the coding functions. The loss of coding functions in one skin cell will induce chain effects to other cells which create skin problems like uneven skin tone, wrinkles and freckles.

If we are able to have one skin cell regenerate, the chain effect will be started to other skin cells as well. Our skin is largely made of different types of protein and therefore protein synthesis is an important process for healthy skin. The protein synthesis is performed when DNA is activated and transcribed to mRNA. 4,400 DNA has been chosen for research by the Advanced Research Laboratories and it found out 180 DNA of the 4,400 are highly related to skin and skin health in accordance to time and stress.

Scientist in cosmetic industry also discovered DNA repairing components in the natural world, which can be used for human skin. 44 years ago, Dr. Rafael AbadIglesia discovered secretion produced by Cryptomphalus Aspersa (brown garden snail) is able to protects, moisturizes and regenerate skin cells. It can also heal a wound in 48 hours. Later, the active repairing factors have been extracted from Cryptomphalus Aspersa (SCA) to produce Endocare Ampoules and for other skin treatments.

Other than snails, the stem cells from plants are proved to be effective in fighting skin aging problem. The latest technology is to combine stem cells from plants and the synthetic growth hormone for excellent effective in anti-oxidizing and fighting against free radicals and pollutants. 3 Lab Super H Serum contains Nano-Claire GY which replenishes the growth hormone that you need for skin regeneration.

Tretinoin and Hydroquinone are two effective substances in cosmetic industry for improving skin texture and skin tone. The Obagi Nu-Derm System has combined these two effective substances together. Together with its patented technology in Therapeutic Cascade, the two substances are carried deeply down of dermis layer for facilitating nutrition absorption and skin cell regeneration.
