Searching For Effective Acne Remedies?

June 16th, 2011

Throughout the years, a variety of processes have been invented to combat the spread of acne on our skin and preserve our aesthetic integrity against unwanted disorders. This led to the preponderance of acne remedies available for us today. Indeed, acne remedies come in abundance. There are those that are applied by professionals, and there are those that can be carried out by yourself in the comfort of your own home.

The important thing to determine before considering what acne remedies to use is the severity of your acne problems. Basically, these come in extremes. There are those light cases of acne, like whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. And there are those severe cases of acne which become manifest through redness, cysts and lumps, often clustered together in groups.

Acne remedies for slight cases are easier to procure. There are quite a number of over-the-counter products that can be bought in most cosmetic and pharmaceutical stores. Some of them efficiently destroys harmful bacteria that, when added to oil, would cause acne. Examples of these acne remedies are Stridex and Oxy-Work. These come in cream form, and all you have to do is to apply them on your skin in their recommended dosages. Some of these acne remedies, however, can trigger allergies, so it is critical to choose the hypoallergenic ones, or determine your known allergies first and make sure that the products you’re eyeing don’t contain triggers for the same.

Professional treatment for slight cases of acne includes chemical skin peeling and cyst-draining. These acne remedies sound painful, don’t they? But fear not, as the pain is minimal, comparable to an ant’s bite in most cases. Chemical skin peeling involves the application of counter-action chemicals to burn the acne-infested layer. Cyst-draining involves the actual draining of the mucus inside the acne through the use of specialized needles.

Acne remedies for severe cases are usually through the intake of resinoids of synthetic Vitamin A. Resinoids come in either cream-form or pills. These types of acne remedies slow down the skin’s production of oil, hence effectively curtailing the breakout of acne. Effects last to as long as 6 months, which would justify the rather hefty price tag attached to them.

Of all the acne remedies, laser treatment is perhaps the most recent, and as many claim, the most effective. It involves the use of – yes – laser to burn acne, and the use of a special red light to stimulate the skin’s production of collagen which in turn would heal the scars faster. In the past months, laser treatment home kits have been introduced in the market. Sadly, despite the efficiency of this acne remedy, it remains inaccessible to most folks because of the steep price attached to it.

Acne Scars

September 23rd, 2010

Acne scars are a sad reminder of the having suffered pimples or even acne. They are intolerable because of their seeming permanence and their non-complimentary look. Normally speaking, acne scars are rather difficult to treat, but tissue regeneration is not unusual these days with all the amazing technological developments.

Generally speaking, when referring to acne scars, we are talking about the healed lesions resulting from an acne infection. While most scarring is temporary and will probably disappear on its own over time, scarring from the more severe forms of acne can become permanent.

Acne scarring may be prevented if the patient visits doctor when the acne scarring is in an incipient stage, especially if nodules or cysts accompany the red pustules on the skin’s surface. If the bouts of acne have marked your skin, you will have to approach the problem from a different perspective, which usually means surgery.

Laser resurfacing is one possibility of removing the damaged skin areas and stimulating the organic regrowth of the tissue beneath. This operation only requires local anaesthetic and can take between a few minutes and an hour depending on the extent of the problem.

Fractional laser therapy is one of the most recent forms of eliminating acne scarring. It involves surgical intervention at deep skin layers. The therapy is superior to both dermabrasion and laser resurfacing in terms of quality and involves a much reduced healing period. Nevertheless, fractional laser therapy remains within the reach of only those few lucky people, who can pay for it, since it is the most expensive acne treatment available these days.

It can happen that further sessions are required to improve the condition of the upper layers of skin, before they can tackle the deep level treatment of the acne scarring. The doctor may inject collagen into the scars in order to elevate the existing skin level or she/he may suggest micro-dermabrasion for the same reason. Trying to carry out chemical peels at home could be a bad idea because of the risk of aggravating the condition by irritating the scars even further.

As for the kinds of acne scarring, they can be classified according to the formation pattern. Scars can result because of an increase of tissue or due to a loss of tissue They both have an adverse impact on the way the face looks. Specialists’ evaluation of the nature of the scars is a very important factor for the decision of adopting one form of treatment or another.

Acne Does Not Equal Zits

September 13th, 2010

There are various kinds of acne, named according to how or why the acne developed. Some of the kinds of acne are: acne conglobata (chronic boils); acne fulminans (an extreme form of conglobata); acne cosmetica (caused by cosmetics); acne keloidalis nuchae (from shaving); acne medicamentosa (caused by starting or stopping a medication); acne rosacea (redness on the face); baby acne; hormonal acne; cloracne and the common variety, acne vulgaris (also known as ‘puberty spots’). In this article, we will take a closer look at acne vulgaris.

Acne vulgaris may be described as: ‘an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland). Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits’ (according to Wikipedia).

Acne is most often found in white Western teenagers, although it does occur in every country in the world, so there could be a genetic predisposition to it. It is possible that it could be an abnormal reaction to fairly average levels of testosterone. For most sufferers, outbreaks of acne last only until adulthood, probably only a few years or at the most ten. For other people, however, it may be a life-long affliction. It most often affects the face, upper-chest, upper-arms and back. However, an occasional spot does not constitute acne.

Acne vulgaris manifests itself in different many forms, including: whiteheads, resulting from pores that are completely blocked, trapping sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, causing a white appearance on the top; blackheads, caused by pores which are only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface (the black colour is not a result of dirt, but is a reaction of the skin’s own pigment, called melanin, with the oxygen in the air); papules, which are inflamed, red, tender bumps with no head and pustules, which are similar to whiteheads, but are inflamed, and look like red circles with a white or yellow centre.

Whiteheads do not often last long; blackheads do last a long time and pustules are what people call spots. Severe acne vulgaris is characterized by nodules and cysts. A ‘nodule’ is a much larger and more painful sort of pustule and can sometimes last for months. Nodules are large, hard bumps under the skin’s surface. They frequently result in scarring and should never be squeezed, which could cause them to last for months longer still.

A ‘cyst’ may look similar to a nodule, but it is full of pus and has been defined as having a diameter of at least 5mm and, again, can cause scars and cause pain. Squeezing an acne cyst can cause a more severe infection and more acute inflammation which may last quite a bit longer than if it had not been squeezed. Skin experts have ways of reducing the swelling and avoiding scarring with both nodules and cysts. It is just not true that acne sufferers are not meticulous about cleanliness.

In fact, excessive washing can exacerbate acne. There are many, many fake ‘treatments’ on the market and many, many old wives’ remedies, but any good skin expert would tell you that there is no known cure for acne and that the patient should follow a deliberate regimen of cleansing until the acne just ‘disappears’ of its own accord.

How To Treat Acne Successfully

September 8th, 2010

Acne is horrible. However, it’s not something that cannot be tackled. There are heaps of acne skin care products around. We can pigeonhole acne skin care products into 3 broad categories -

* Preventive or general acne skin care products; * Over-the-counter, specialised acne skin care items; * Prescription only acne skin care products.

The general acne skin care products are the ones that are used as an acne-prevention measure. These include cleansers, make-up removers and similar items that help prevent acne. In the real sense, these acne skin care products are those that should be part of your daily schedule anyway. However, some of these are more orientated to work like an everyday acne skin care product.

These acne skin care products act against the reasons for acne e.g. limiting the production of sebum/oil and avoiding the congestion of skin pores. Basically, these acne skin care products inhibit the oil from getting trapped in the skin and hence impede the growth of the bacteria that lead to acne. Broad-spectrum acne skin care items also take in exfoliation products like skin peels. These work by removing dead skin cells, thereby reducing the likelihood of pore-clogging and bacteria increase.

Then there are specialised acne skin care products that are available over-the-counter i.e. without the requirement of a prescription. These include products like vanishing creams which remove the extra oil from the skin. Most of these acne skin care items are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and therefore acne). You should start with a product that has a lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin reacts to it.

Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also common as acne skin care items. You may have to test a few, before you find the acne skin care product that is most effective for you. If nothing seems to work, you should contact a skincare specialist.

Prescription acne skin care items are the ones that are prescribed by a dermatologist. These include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical medication. A dermatologist may also suggest a minor surgical process to do away with the contents of pustules. However, never try to squeeze or do this by yourself, as it can lead to the permanent damage of your skin.

Your doctor could also prescribe a hormone-based treatment (since hormonal changes are also known to cause acne). Such acne skin care items are known to be very effective in some cases. So, with all those acne skin care items, combatting acne is really not all that arduous.

Dealing With Dry Skin

July 19th, 2010

Dry skin is quite frequently sensitive as well, which just makes it harder to care for. Dry sensitive skin feels taut because of the deficiency of natural oils and has a tendency to develop small expression lines that will eventually become wrinkles. Moreover, this type of skin makes one more liable to allergic reactions, rashes, capillaries rupturing and sudden flushes. Therefore, the taking care of dry sensitive skin proves quite a challenge at times. It is worth stating the fact that it affects people regardless of age, colour or gender.

You have to follow rigorous steps in your choice of cleansing, moisturising and make up products when you have dry sensitive skin to care for. First of all, you have to minimize the amount of products you put on your skin. The fact is, the more chemicals you come into contact with, the higher the chance of developing rashes. The products have to be fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic so that you don’t get red, irritation blotches. Blusher and foundation could present some problems for dry sensitive skin.

Try not to use too much make-up in order to permit your skin to breathe properly. When you are shopping for make up, other than looking for the hypo-allergenic label, you should also try to make sure that they are oil-free. Furthermore, foundation and blusher should be water-based because they don’t clog your pores. Moreover, oil-absorbing foundations are not recommended for dry sensitive skin, because they will make your skin even drier.

It is also not recommended that you use exfoliants or astringent products on dry sensitive skin because they can irritate the thin epidermis. The same thing must be said in relation to washing: over-washing of the face means eliminating the natural oils that lubricate the skin, which will result in an accelerated dryness.

Furthermore, the day-time moisturiser should have an incorporated SPF (sun-protection factor) of at least 15. However, although you may like sunbathing, dry sensitive skin doesn’t really allow you to enjoy such outdoor pleasures.

Don’t expose dry sensitive skin to the sun in order to tan it, because you will only achieve early ageing and possibly even fairly serious health issues. And last but not least, a warning must be signalled that you should change some of your cosmetic products for others along the lines mentioned above.

If you decide that you want to change to a different skincare brand, it is very important that you test the product on a small section of skin in order to check whether it triggers any negative manifestations.

Skincare is very important in these days of pollution and ozone deficiency. If you require information on Dry Skin Care Products, please visit our website called Hypoallergenic Skin Care

Anger Management And Spousal Violence.

April 10th, 2010

How does anger management play a role in domestic violence? Simply put, most people that abuse their spouse in this type of situation, are angry due to an antisocial disorder lying deep in their mind. Anger is one of the leading symptoms of personality disorder, including paranoia, schizophrenia, schizoid, antisocial, psychopathic, histrionic and sociopathic personalities.

Many people that are abusive in relationships have anti-social personalities. The anti-social personality type of person often attacks when he or she is drunk or under the influence of some drug or other. This is not true in all instances of course, but it is true in most circumstances. Anti-social personality types often disregard rules and regulations and usually feel that they are authorized to do so. Anti-social personality types are control freaks and if you do not conform to their authority, they often show their anger in a controlling or violent way.

Anti-social types will often humiliate, intimidate, brutally physically abuse and mentally belittle their spouse, but the domestic abuse does not usually stop there. This type of individual has never proven to be likely to respond to anger management techniques. In other words, men that batter their wives will usually continue to do so until someone gets seriously injured. It is not wise to get involved with this type of person, as there is rarely any hope at all of them controlling their anger. This type will often beat a spouse, until they only want to kill them. This means someone could die, since this sort of person will become angrier and angrier as the years pass and will rarely seek anger management help with their domestic violence.

Even if he or she does get anger management help for domestic violence, it often fails. It is not recommended to start a relationship with this type of person. The signs are an unkempt appearance or wild expressions, laughing for no apparent purpose, laughing in a situation where a person was injured, outbursts of anger for no reason et cetera. This type of person is superficial and will often lead you to believe that he or she is a model for society, when behind closed doors the brute appears.

Of course, hate is the underlying cause of this person’s rage, and hatred has been proven to kill. Often deep-seated jealousy also underlies the anger issues within these types of people. Many of these angry people take drugs, like cocaine, crack, marijuana and others. They often exceed the safety limit of alcohol consumption and this only increases the chances of them flying off the handle.

An example of bad anger management and domestic violence can be seen in a small town called Dowagiac in Michigan, a man attempted to kill several women but was still allowed to go free. Little anger management help was provided to this person and often his furious attacks were simply because he felt that he could not control his victims. The victims did not get any justice and a few even believed that they could change his angry ways.

Today, he is sitting in the county gaol on a number of charges, including assault of a police officer and a hit and run. The police, according to witnesses, claim that the perpetrator had a weapon and was drunk when he fled in order to elude arrest and marijuana was found in his vehicle. This person had a continuous history of brutality but the justice system let those victims down, which led to more anger management problems.

Another example of bad anger management is in borderline personality types. These people, when feeling alone, will attack others. Sometimes they are physically abusive, but most of the time they are verbally and mentally abusive. The partner has only to go to work, say, and when he or she returns home, they will be accused of having done something terrible.

The abusive person might even call the workplace of the spouse numerous times to verify that he or she has not run off with someone else. This is another type of angry person that rarely recovers, and like the antisocial personality types, these types are just as dangerous and manipulative.

Paranoid types are also dangerous and manipulative but their anger can never be predicted. In most cases, these types act on voices perceived to be inside or outside their head. Like the antisocial types, the paranoid type rarely has justifiable reason for their behaviour. In most cases, it is merely a control issue. This means that if the victim is uncontrollable he or she will react angrily and violently.
