The Simple Secret That Doubles Your Chance Of Living For Over 100 Years

April 30th, 2011

How would you like to live past 100? I guess that’s kind of a loaded question. Like the show, “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” Of course you do! Who doesn’t want to be a millionaire? Well, not Bill Gates. Becoming a millionaire would make him poor; at least, RELATIVELY poor. Everything is relative. For example, living to 100 doesn’t interest me if I’m sick or in pain. On the other hand – I’d love to join the century club as long as the quality of my life and health was great. You see, it’s all VERY relative.

Here are some important findings of a study that identified something that doubles your chance of reaching and living past the age of 100 years. Here are the results according to an article in the Earth times: The researchers, Dr. Leonid Gavrilov and Dr. Natalia Gavrilova, say the age at which a mother gives birth is a major factor in the number of years the offspring lives throughout the years. The chances of the child living up the age of 100 and beyond are almost double for a child born to a woman below 25 years of age. The husband and wife team had previously discovered birth order is a major factor in longevity. This is very important.

For example, first-born children, especially daughters, are more likely to live past 100 years of age. The recent study shows the age of the mother is more important than any of the other factors. Gavrilov and Gavrilova used data from the U.S. Census, the Social Security Administration and genealogical records to identify 198 centenarians born in the U.S. from 1890 to 1893 and then traced their family histories to establish possible predictors of their longevity. They found being born to a young mother had an important role in reaching the age of 100. There are other factors also like growing up in the Western part of the U.S., spending part of one’s childhood on a farm and being born first. They feel the study needs further elaboration and deeper research. Gavrilov suspects the younger women’s eggs are different in their quality, and the best ones, the most vigorous, go first to fertilization. The researchers are of the opinion that their findings may have important social implications because many women tend to postpone childbearing to later ages due to career demands.

There appears to be both good news and even some bad news. For example, if your mother was under the age of 25 when you were born, you’re probably doing back flips right now because your chances are higher to living to 100 years of age. On the other hand, if your mother was a little older when you were born, you may be a little depressed by what you just read in this article. The real truth of the matter is you shouldn’t be too elated or discouraged by what Dr. Garilov and Dr. Garilova uncovered.

The first thing to understand from this chiropractic article is that correlation is not causation. This “study” was comprised of data from 198 people who were born from 1890 to 1893. 198 is not a lot of people and may not be representative of the overall population. In other words, just because a certain percentage of the study group who lived to be over 100 years old were born to a mother under the age of 25 does not necessarily mean that was the cause of anything. There are a lot of unknown factors. For example, let’s say we were trying to find out what causes certain people to have high IQs. We looked at some data of 198 people with IQs of 150 and above. And in that data, we found that a high percentage of these people’s parents had blue eyes. Would your conclusion be that blue eyes are a cause of high IQ? Of course it would not. It is simply a correlation that has nothing to do with causation, especially if your data came from a part of the world where a large portion of the population has blue eyes! It could have been just a coincidence.

Benefits of Warming Up and Cooling Down

February 17th, 2011

Have you ever been so excited to start a workout that you forgot to warm up first? You are not alone – one of the most common mistakes made in exercising is to skip the beginning stretching routine.

Although warming up is essential to staying injury-free and getting the maximum results from physical activity, it is still viewed by some as an optional part of the workout. There are several reasons why this should never be the case, and why stretching is not only performed before you exercise.

Preparation

Sudden shock to joints and muscles is never good. That is exactly what happens when you participate in any resistance based movement without the proper warm up. Since muscle fibers are smaller, they can easily tear when placed under stress, unless they are properly conditioned to absorb the resistance and benefit from it.

How do you prepare your muscles and joints? The easiest way is to do simple, yet effective stretching exercises. Depending on the goals of your workout or activity, make sure that any stretching involves all of the muscles you will be using. For example, reach above your head and extend your arms. Or, bring your legs up to your body and hold the position. These movements are quick and painless, and they can protect you from unnecessary setbacks.

Besides providing flexibility to your joints, warming up should also focus on improving your blood flow. When blood starts to increase around your muscles, they are physically prepared to expand and contract during resistance training. This is an important part of the muscle building phase in a workout. Try walking or jogging in place to really get your blood flowing and your heart pumping.

During

Instead of standing around or sitting in between sets, use the time to keep your muscles ready for the next exercise. Stretch the muscle groups that you have just worked, as well as the ones you will be working next. Keep your breathing patterns consistent and pace yourself to always maintain control of your movements.

As you become used to including stretching in your routine, you might be surprised at how noticeable the results are, both in appearance and how you feel.

After

The same type of warm up exercises can make great cool down exercises too. The point of cooling down is to ease your body back into its normal state. Take the time to stretch and give your muscles and joints the chance to wind down before just stopping the physical activity altogether. In the end, your recovery will be much more efficient and the strain on your body will be much less.

Check with your physician or personal trainer to decide which warm up and cool down exercises would be right for the exercise program or sport you are performing. By customizing the exercises, you will be helping the exact muscles and joints that are experiencing the most movements. A typical stretching routine can take about five minutes, so there is no excuse for even thinking of exercising without it.

Keep your breathing patterns consistent and pace yourself to always maintain control of your movements. Warm up and Cool down Besides providing flexibility to your joints, warming up should also focus on improving your blood flow. The same type of warm up exercises can make great cool down exercises too.

Foods That are Good for your Eyes

February 16th, 2011

The same healthy diet that?s good for your heart and arteries can help preserve your eyes and vision. That?s not surprising. ?Vision depends on tiny capillaries that supply the retina and other parts of the eye with nutrients and oxygen,? says Monique Roy, MD, a professor at the New Jersey Medical School?s Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science. ?Keeping those arteries healthy is essential.?

As part of an overall healthy diet, several key nutrients appear to be particularly important to preserving sight as we get older.

C, E, and Zinc

A decade ago, the Age-Related Eye Disease Study reported that people given vitamin E, vitamin C, beta carotene, and zinc in supplements were less likely to develop advanced age-related macular degeneration, or AMD. The combination was most effective at slowing the progression from intermediate to advanced AMD, which is one of the leading causes of age-related blindness. Because of those findings, many people diagnosed with early signs of AMD today are routinely prescribed a pill that combines these nutrients.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin

Two other nutrients ? lutein and zeaxanthin ? are also linked to lower risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. A 2008 Tufts University study of 1,802 women 50 to 79 years old found that those who consumed the most lutein and zeaxanthin in their diets were 23% less likely to develop cataracts than those who consumed the least. Rich sources of these two compounds include kale, spinach, turnip greens, romaine lettuce, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid

The newest nutrient linked to better vision with age is omega-3 fatty acid, which is found predominantly in fish oil. In a study of 2,520 people, researchers at Johns Hopkins University reported in 2010 that people who consumed fish high in omega-3s fatty acids often were significantly less likely to have advanced age-related macular degeneration. Omega-3s may also protect against cataracts, according to 2010 findings by researchers at the Clinical University of Navarra in Spain.

Researchers don’t understand exactly why omega-3s may protect against eye diseases. One guess is that these healthy oils may reduce inflammation and thereby protect against cell damage.

Pills vs. Food

Although antioxidant supplements are routinely prescribed to people with early signs of macular degeneration, there’s little agreement on whether supplements will help otherwise healthy people preserve their vision. “Most of the evidence to date is very mixed,” Allen Taylor, a leading researcher at the Laboratory for Nutrition and Vision Research at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, tells WebMD. In one recent study, for example, a multivitamin seemed to protect against some forms of cataracts but actually raise the risk of other forms.

“By far the best way to protect your vision from age-related diseases is by eating a healthy diet,” says Kathleen Zelman, RD, director of nutrition for WebMD.

Recent findings help make the case for healthy food choices. A 2010 study by French scientists, for instance, found eating more vegetables – including cabbage, broccoli, pepper, corn, or spinach – improved the condition of the retina in people with age-related macular degeneration.

Food For Eyes Two other nutrients – lutein and zeaxanthin – are also linked to lower risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. Researchers don’t understand exactly why omega-3s may protect against eye diseases. Two other nutrients – lutein and zeaxanthin – are also linked to lower risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

An Anti Aging Skin Care Product User List

November 3rd, 2010

Have you ever wondered which anti aging skin care product a celebrity like Michelle Pfeifer or Madonna uses to keep her fantastic skin looking so good? Surely it isn?t the same kind of wrinkle cream that you see gracing the shelves of your local department store. Or is it?

The scenario just described is purely seductive fiction ? seductive because it is the type of everyday miracle that we would all like to have come true at least once in our lives. We all want to have younger looking skin, even if we don?t pin our careers on our looks like big-time movie actresses and haute couture fashion models. For them ? the Beautiful People ? there is a rarified world of designer label products and pricey procedures that we can only dream about.

You might be one of the lucky people who can afford to use a top of the line anti aging skin care product. The rich and famous, whether film stars or oil field heiresses, are flocking to luxurious ?boutique? dermatology treatments like ?Murad,? named for its creator, Dr. Howard Murad, of Los Angeles. Not for every budget, designer dermatology creations can cost many hundreds of dollars per application.

Indeed, the stakes are high enough that it isn?t just the women who are craving, and paying hefty fees for, younger looking skin. Hungarian dermatologist Ernie Lazlo?s high end line of treatments has drawn the favor of men like Brad Pitt, who is also known to stop in for the celebrity spa facial from time to time.

So is it all hype? What could be in these magic potions that would make them able to demand a higher cost than your average dinner for two? Were you to be able to inspect these items you would find many familiar facial friends: amino acids, vitamins, kelp extracts, etc. ? nothing too far out of the ordinary ingredient list. Then there might start to be a few surprises, like a synthetic equivalent to the epidermal growth hormone found in the saliva of your favorite household pets.

Crazy you say? Maybe so, but seeking out exotic ingredients to polish an anti aging skin care product secret formula is anything but rare. Just like the things that can turn up in hot dogs, you might be in for a surprise when you check out the ingredient list on your standby face cream ? unless you are used to collecting bee mucous extract, that is.

Maybe you are starting to wonder whether it is all unnecessary – that modern superficial values on the importance of appearance have pushed us over the brink of madness in search for the Fountain of Youth. History would not bear this out unfortunately. Women have been seeking secrets to younger looking skin down to us from long into the distant past. Then, as now, success stories of women achieving beautiful skin thrive.

Whether or not you choose to partake, there will always be women (and men) around you using an anti aging skin care product as part of their quest for youth and physical beauty. Whether it comes with an exorbitant price tag, or a homemade recipe, will be a matter of marketing power and personal conscience.

5 Tips For Fighting Off Insomnia For More Weight Loss

October 11th, 2010

Sleep is probably one of the most underrated aspects of modern day health. Yet countless people actually die on the road every single day because of sleep deprivation.

To make matters worse, in extreme cases, many people live their lives in constant lethargy as a result of misdiagnosed sleeping disorders. Are you sleeping well every night?

So, without further delay, here are 5 tips for fighting off insomnia:

1. Optimize your room: Your body produces melatonin when it’s time to go to bed. And one of the ways it kick-starts this production is with darkness and cool temperatures. So make sure your room is both dark and cold before you go to sleep. Just make sure you don’t make it too cold or else you will wake in the middle of the night.

2. Don’t let fake light hit your eyes before bed: Using a laptop or watching TV can not only cause emotional arousal before bed, but can also send false awake signals to your pineal gland. So make sure you minimize the use of electronics right before bed so that you don’t disrupt your sleeping cycles.

3. Block out noise: You could use ear plugs here. However, many times they will fall out and most of them are not very comfortable by any stretch of the imagination. I recommend getting a sound conditioner that can produce white noise so that you can sleep like a baby.

4. Don’t wrap yourself up like a mummy: When you first fall asleep you may not feel hot. However, as the night progresses and heat collects, you may begin to sweat. And recall that high temperatures make you more awake. Not good if you really want to sleep well.

5. Don’t wake up late on the weekends: Your internal biological clock is sensitive during the week and during weekends. Thus, every time you sleep in on the weekend, you are sending mixed signals to your biological clock. Thus, it behooves you to wake up and fall asleep at the same time all the time.

Now getting sleep is not only vital for your day to day living, but also vital to fight off serious disease like cancer. So please take action on the tips in this article sooner rather than later. You see, later usually never comes!

Become Your Best Beautician With Anti Aging Skin Care Products

October 7th, 2010

Ladies, anti aging skin care products can be a simple addition to your personal time-fighting arsenal. If you have not yet heard yourself say ?Mother? How did you get into my mirror?? it is probably only a matter of time. Growing older is inevitable, but looking older is not.

Many women may tell you that they wear their wrinkles and crows feet as badges of a life fully lived. But if you were to check their medicine cabinets and night stands you might find a few tools that help soften those temporal tokens.

Industries promoting youth, health, and beauty are still mainstays of the American economy. Beauty practices stretch back in time as far as recorded history itself. Would-be Cleopatras of ancient Egypt kept pots of precious cosmetics by their sides and in their burial chambers. The renowned Habsburg beauty Empress Elizabeth (?Sisi?) designed a rigorous health regimen around a strict diet, regular exercise, and the daily use of homeopathic anti aging skin care products such as strawberry cream, olive oil baths, and fresh fruit facial masks.

Ponce de Leon was one of many explorers who set out to find the fountain of youth. What he discovered is that it does not exist. What can be found instead is a wide range of health and beauty options, starting at simple facial creams to smooth out your crows feet, and ending at complicated surgical procedures and replacement techniques. But which are right for you? When you can answer: ?How much??and ?How drastic?? you are ready to take action in your battle of the ages.

So you?ve decided that appearing in the next episode of ?Nip/Tuck? isn?t for you, but you still want to do something to slow down the march of time. An easy first step is to start, or pump up, a daily exercise routine. Something as simple ? and inexpensive ? as walking can promote better health, firm up muscle tone, and relieve stress.

The next stop on your route is at your local health and beauty supplier, or maybe that friend who never seems to age a day. Be inquisitive – information is everywhere! There are anti aging skin care products available for every budget and personality, from eco-friendly to Hollywood glitz.

Cosmetic surgery is one possibility, as crows feet and sagging eyelids are no match for a talented professional! But remember that these treatments are medical procedures that may not be suitable to you for physical or financial reasons. Do enough research to be sure that surgery is the right answer if you go this route.

Whichever option you use to start looking younger ? whether it is through exercise, anti aging skin care products, or more intricate medical solutions ? the most important factor in the equation is that you start doing something. How much evidence the passage of time leaves on your skin is relative to the time you spend trying to waylay it. After all, you aren?t getting any younger?. But that doesn?t mean that you can?t start looking like you are.

No site but AntiAgingHowTo.com gives you all the tips and info on anti aging skin care products and related subjects. Whether you are new to the topic or an expert, make sure to learn more about crows feet by following the links above !

Anti Aging Skin Cream Active Ingredients

October 5th, 2010

It is getting easier to find anti aging skin cream in stores and suppliers near your location thanks in part to the explosion of e-commerce. A broad range of ingredients from around the globe are similarly coming within the reach of beauty product designers and engineers, who then deliver them metaphorically to your door. The hard part now isn?t to get quality beauty products into your hand; the hard part is deciding which of the overwhelming choices to choose.

Active ingredients are also a critical component of your products anti aging formula if it has one; most hand and face treatments are designed to help give you a younger look by smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines through moisturizers or collagen replacement processes. Keeping yourself looking younger is not just for women any more. Dermatologists and cosmetics companies are regularly developing and marketing products facial care products for men to keep them looking their very best as well.

One of the primary contributors to an older look is the presence of dead or damaged cells on your outer epidermal layer. The human body normally replaces these cells every few weeks, and in our youth they tend to be resilient to damage and decay. As the body ages the epidermis becomes more susceptible to deterioration, particularly from exposure to harsh weather or sunlight. Dead cells contribute to a ?dull? look overall and also highlight wrinkles and fine facial lines. A product with a good anti aging skin cream will be formulated to remove dead cells from outer epidermal layer and reveal the healthier, more vibrant cells underneath.

The anti aging formula used to remove dead cells from the surface of your body usually contains a type of exfoliant, a material or compound that is expressly used to accomplish this task. They can be gentle acids that break down the chemical bond between the damaged cells and the layers below, or they can be mechanical agents that physically rub or pull the dead cells off.

You already know that your skin is both resilient and fragile. Ingredient lists for cosmetic products can be mystifying and daunting. However, if you know that you are allergic to food items such as fruits or nut oils it makes sense to read the small print on any new cosmetic product since these types of ingredients are common beauty additives. Also be sure to follow manufacturer directions for use. Too little applied and you probably won?t see any appreciable results. Apply too much, or the right amount too often and you could be inviting irritation, rashes, or acne.

Anti wrinkle creams are another form of skin care product aimed at giving you a more youthful appearance. While not a ?face lift in a bottle? the anti aging formula found in many of these recipes can visibly lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your skin. Retinol, hydroxyl acids, and tea extracts are common ingredient choices for promoting smoother skin.

Anti aging skin cream is a logical first choice in your battle against the clock, but this option takes time to deliver results. A licensed dermatologist can offer you more treatment options than those available over the counter. Microderm abrasion is a popular form of mechanical exfoliation that is best administered by the hands of a trained professional.

There are certainly many products available that may help you keep your skin looking younger, smoother, and more vibrant. Whether you prefer to remove dead skin cells or smooth out wrinkles with an anti aging skin cream, or head to the dermatologist for a microderm abrasion, is up to you.

Be sure to check out AntiAgingHowTo.com for comprehensive anti aging skin cream information, or to find all the anti aging formula advice and insights that you need. Follow the links right now !

What Is Natural Resveratrol And Telomerase And How It Can Help You

September 5th, 2010

Plants are where natural resveratrol can be found. This is also known as phytoalexin and it is a natural compound. It is responsible for fighting off fungi and bacteria. This compound can be found in a variety of foods. These include certain berries like cranberries, raspberries, mulberries and in the skins of grapes. These skins are also used for the purposes of making wine.

Natural resveratrol has also been reported that the compound contains anti aging properties. Supplementation has been made containing this compound. Many believe that this can prolong your life as well. This is largely due to the French people who live long in spite of eating foods that are high in fats. The belief is that this is because they drink copious amounts of red wine. The natural resveratrol is contained in the skins of red grapes and wine is made from grapes. It is also believed to keep the blood thin in a healthy way. Peanuts are said to contain more natural resveratrol than is the case with grapes and berries.

This miracle anti-ageing ingredient is an excellent anti oxidant and it extends tolerance to exercise and help the memory. Some evidence has been found to support the notion that natural resveratrol can help the body fight off herpes, HIV and other retro viruses.

It is good for the function of the heart as it helps the blood to coagulate. This is because natural resveratrol limits the excess platelets in the blood. Aside from this, it has anti carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti tumorigenic properties contained in it.

Telomeres appear at the end of chromosomes. Telomerase is an enzyme that maintains the integrity of the telomeres. Chromosomes are crucial to all the life functions of the human body. This enzyme is responsible for preventing damage or loss of genetic information during the process of DNA replication. Therefore, it replaces the sequences of telomeres and aids genetic repair. Therefore, it controls the lifespan of cells that divide.

Natural resveratrol compound also has the ability to behave like phytoestrogen. This is a compound derived from plants. This mimics or reduces the female sexual hormone, estrogen.

It is made up of several protein components as well as an RNA stretch. It stops the ageing of cells and enables the division, proliferation and regeneration thereof. Other popular supplements that aid anti ageing include Vitamins D and E and fish oils. Natural resveratrol enhances the activity of telomerase by lengthening the telomeres.

The compound known as natural resveratrol can be derived naturally from food. When derived in this way, it leaves the body more quickly than the supplemental compound would. The dosage in the supplements is also much lower; hence, the effects could be minimized.

Does Fructose Really Triggers Cancer?

August 30th, 2010

This week it is not possible to neglect the headlines that fructose causes breast and pancreatic cancer. But does this actually mean we have to dispense our OJ down the drain and compost our dried dates and raisins, vowing not to approach the fruit aisle at the supermarket again?

What all the reporting is leaving out is the reason why fructose is associated with cancer. The simple reason is that sugar isn’t just burned by cells. Sugar also becomes the backbone of DNA.

DNA is composed in portion of incredibly long chains of ribose sugar. It is simpler for those cells to make ribose from fructose than it is for them to make it from any other source. Nevertheless, the procedure is manual.

The conversion of fructose to pentose only occurs when there are also fluctuations in an enzyme called transketolase. This enzyme responds to excess sugar, not necessarily by fructose sugar. It’s not just the presence of fructose that triggers the production of large amounts of ribose. It’s also consuming too many carbs in general. There is a sudden enthusiasm for the more natural cane sugar, or sucrose, but it’s essential to remember that sucrose is a chemical combination of glucose and fructose. You don’t avoid fructose by eating cane sugar.

But what does all this have to do with cancer, anyway?

In the proliferation stage of cancer development, cancer cells need to make lots of DNA so they can divide to create lots of cancer cells. Fructose does not cause cancer. It does not really “fuel” cancer. It provides the raw materials for cancer cell (and healthy cell) DNA. If
you consume tiny amounts of fructose, you don’t trigger the massive production of ribose in cancer cells.

There is a distinction, of course, between high-fructose corn syrup and fructose from fruit. “High” fructose is not 100% fructose. It’s also glucose, just in a different ratio than table sugar. The idea for using high-fructose corn syrup is that it doesn’t dry out the same way that cane sugar does, and it is a clever explanation for planting many of corn, selling lots of seed and fertilizer and tractors, making a new product for hedge funds, and so on. Eating no more than about 15 grams (3 spoons) up to twice a day won’t activate the nasty reactions that accelerate cancer proliferation, and eating a single piece of fruit earlier in the day and another piece of fruit later in the day won’t, either.

Dunking a dozen doughnuts, on the other way, is sensibly a prescription for cancer growth. It is just Significant to remember that with fructose as with everything else, stay within a healthy limit. And it’s probably best to avoid high-fructose corn syrup altogether, if only to send the hedge fund managers, GMO creators, and pesticide purveyors a lesson.
