Cosmetic Treatment Known As BOTOX

August 16th, 2010

BOTOX injections are the leading cosmetic treatment in the US. This is a million-dollar industry and Americans are getting injections of this facial filler on folds, wrinkles, lips, and lines. BOTOX got FDA approvals to treat everything from eye twitches to underarm sweats. But it is still used commonly for cosmetic improvements or to remove wrinkles.

How it Works

BOTOX is a toxin that is being produced by a bacterium called clostridium botulinum. When ingested in big amounts, it can cause botulism. Although one effect of botulism is paralysis, doctors and scientists have found ways to make it useful to treat human conditions and problems. Small amounts of it can be directly injected into the muscles to control their weakening.

An injection of BOTOX can be done in about ten to thirty minutes. It depends on the amount of injection and what the treatment areas are. The area that will be treated is numbed by using an anesthetic. Then BOTOX are injected in these predetermined areas in small controlled quantities. There will be minor pain and discomfort during the injection but these go away after the procedure has been done. BOTOX paralyzes the muscles of the face so the skin does not move or form wrinkles and in order to remove lines.

Risks and Complications

One of the more common complications of a BOTOX injection is eyelid drooping. If this happens, it is only temporary and can be gone within three weeks. This is caused by the migration of the BOTOX from the treatment area to the areas near it. This is the main reason why you are advised not to rub the area treated with BOTOX for at least 12 hours after the procedure. Patients are also reminded not to lie down within 3 to 4 hours after treatment.

BOTOX injections have their advantages and associated risks. Before going for a BOTOX treatment, try to get into the habit of maintaining a healthy skin. This prevents lines and wrinkles from appearing in the first place. But if you decided on a BOTOX injection, research on the doctor and the possible complications and side effects of the procedure. This is so you will be informed on what to expect from your BOTOX treatment.

Smartlipo: Effective Results In A Short Time

Laser technology and health care has advanced so quickly over the past few years that the inclusion of a procedure to address fat was inevitable. In the past few years Smartlipo techniques have been perfected using laser equipment that has been built and perfected that addresses the specific needs of individuals with fat pockets in hard to reach areas.

Laser technology provides a safe and non-invasive way to focus on fat pockets that may be difficult to reach without invasive surgical methods. Smartlipo is not a surgical procedure and an individual is not required to have this treatment done in a hospital setting. The method and equipment has been approved by governmental agencies and been used effectively since 2006.

Unlike the surgical incisions required for liposuction, Smartlipo requires a very small cut made over the area to be treated. After the laser is inserted it destroys fat cells with pinpoint accuracy. The cells become a residue that is naturally removed from the body without clinical requirements.

An advantage of Smartlipo is that the laser used encourages the development of collagen as it is being used. This greatly reduces any loose skin and give the area treated a tighter, toned appearance. The residue left from the fat cells is removed from the body naturally.

There are two methods for removing the oily substance that remains when the fat has been dissolved by the laser. Many times the residue is naturally eliminated from the body, however if a patient desires this residue can be removed at the time of the procedures. Removal of fat residue is accomplished using suction equipment. It should be noted however that whether the residue is eliminated naturally or manually, the healing time has been shown to be the same.

Unlike standard liposuction the risks of injury during this procedure are greatly reduced. Since the procedure is non-invasive there is no damage to blood vessels or muscles. There is no blood loss since Smartlipo involves only a small incision and does not include invasive surgical techniques. The use of the laser promotes coagulation which also decrease the possibility of bleeding near or around the area that is being treated.

When discussing treatment with the physician an individual will be informed of all of the treatment plan and what they can expect after the procedure is completed. In most cases the time needed for healing is minimal. Individuals are able to return to their regular activities within a day and suffer minimal discomfort. There are normally some visual changes in the body right after treatment which include skin that is firm and healthy looking in the area that has been addressed.

The full benefits of Smartlipo may not be completely visible for some months following the procedure. However there will be small changes as the metabolism expels fat residue and the skin tightens. In some cases people return for follow-up treatment to address other areas that may be of concern.

While the procedure will remove fat pockets effectively an individual must maintain a proper diet and exercise program to keep the fat from returning. In some cases individual continue an unhealthy lifestyle after treatment which results in a build-up of fat in those areas where it was removed.
