Acne & Skincare Alert: Study’s find Accutane Linked to Serious Side Effects

August 5th, 2010

Accutane (isotretinoin) is a medication utilized by patients with severe acne. Accutane is typically prescribed when other treatments have proven unsuccessful. Deep facial cleansers and topical creams are usually the first round of treatments patients will receive. It still remains popular for many patients and consumers, especially those linked to permanent and disfiguring scarring such as acne vulgaris, acne conglobata and acne fulminans.

The drug has been linked to several severe side effects, including dry irritated skin, severe depression and gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a digestive disorder that refers to two chronic conditions that cause inflammation of the digestive tract, or the intestines. The two conditions, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, are similar, but differ in the area of the digestive tract that they affect.

In a study published in July 2006 by the American Journal of Gastroenterology, isotretinoin (Accutane) use was noted as a possible “trigger” for IBD. The study examined the strength of causality between isotretinoin and IBD, and all cases in the study fell within the “highly probable,” “probable,” or “possible” range with no cases falling in the “doubtful” range.

Though the medication was pulled from the market by Roche Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Accutane, in 2009, patients continue to complain about adverse reactions related to the medication years later, prompting the filing of numerous Accutane lawsuit throughout North America.

Accutane and ulcerative colitis were once again linked when a study published in March 2010 by the American Journal of Gastroenterology noted a “strong association” between previous exposure to isotretinoin (Accutane) and the development of ulcerative colitis. The study reported that the risk of developing ulcerative colitis was highest in patients who used isotretinoin for more than two months.

Severe birth defects are also linked to the use of Accutane. Pregnant women should never take Accutane, as life-threatening birth defects that may affect a developing baby’s brain, heart, ears, face, eyes, skull or head may occur. These serious defects may develop following just one dose of Accutane.

Causes of UTI

Many people suffer from chronic UTI. The medical term UTI stands for urinary tract infection. Signs of a UTI include the following: frequent urges to urinate, urine that looks cloudy, and painful and burning urination.

Some home remedies provide UTI relief, but that relief may be only temporary. First and foremost, you should drink plenty of fluids (especially water) to flush out the bladder. Cranberry juice is helpful as well in providing UTI relief, as it inhibits the growth of bacteria and makes it harder for the bacteria to cling to the urinary tract walls. Celery, watermelon and parsley can also contribute to UTI relief by acting as a diuretic and flushing out the bladder.

If you are unable to visit your doctor after symptoms appear, there are several natural remedies to bring relief.
1)At the first sign of infection, mix teaspoon of baking soda into a eight-ounce glass of water. Baking soda increases the acid-base balance in your system, bringing down the acidity in your urine.
2)Stay hydrated. Though it may feel as if you need to urinate every few minutes, your body is still craving fluids. Cleansing your body with water will move along any unwanted bacteria.
3)Known for its power of fighting the common cold, Echinacea can be helpful in battling your UTI. Taking two capsules three times a day can start you on the path back to wellness.
4)Possibly the most well known natural form of relief is cranberry juice. It works by not allowing bacteria to cling to cells lining the urinary tract and offers quick relief. While tart in flavor, cranberry juice is often one of the fastest and most effective ways to eliminate an infection.

If you catch your UTI at the very first sign of symptoms (painful urinating, constant urge to urinate, lower abdominal pain) you may be able to flush out the bacteria with plain water. Drink plenty of water and it will dilute and flush out the toxins. Another natural remedy to try at the first signs of a UTI is baking soda. Mix 1/2 teaspoon in an eight ounce glass of water and drink. The baking soda will raise the acid balance in your urine.

Cranberry juice has been a popular natural treatment for centuries. This treatment has been used as an effective way to flush the bacteria. The treatment is also thought to be especially effective because it can prevent bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract system. Cranberry juice can also inhibit the growth of bacteria.

Telepathic Humans – Just A Myth?

February 22nd, 2010

When we say someone is \’telepathic\’ what do we really mean? Most people just dismiss the idea of telepathy as belonging to mysticism or science fiction. On the other hand, don\’t we live in a world where people fly on a regular basis? Where information floats invisibly through the air for use with laptops and cell phones? Where anyone can conjure a flame in their hand with the use of a $1 cigarette lighter?

Is has been said that a sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. The human race has used science and technology to learn things about the natural world we never knew. We\’ve done things that were considered impossible flights of fancy just a hundred years ago. We\’ve had men walk on the bottoms of the oceans and on the surface of the moon (and we did it with technology that, by today\’s standards, seems primitive). We can gather energy from the sun, the wind, and the water. And anyone can have a small device in their pocket that allows them to talk to anyone anywhere in the world. But this isn\’t magic, its science right?

Is it then really too much of a stretch to accept the possibility of telepathic people? An individual who developed these mental properties would just be misunderstood by most people.

Investigation, by scientists, of people who are telepathic, is called parapsychology or paraphysics. Even those who investigate this use scientific methods and experiments to get answers to questions on telepathy regardless of what the answer may be or whether its the answer they are looking for.

Some experiments on people with Telepathic powers have produced tantalizing results. In order to consider something scientifically provable, however, the test results must be measurable, consistent, and repeatable. This is where the scientific investigation of telepathy falls short. The test results are inconsistent and can\’t always be duplicated. Some say this proves people can\’t really be Telepathic. Others say this only proves that we don\’t understand how it works yet, and haven\’t developed the proper tests to measure it.

How is it possible there are individuals who are Telepathic? How do they communicate with only their minds without using all their other senses? Obviously it is by a means not understood completely. One that doesnt involve hearing, taste, smell or touch, but nevertheless exists. Think what can be done using our advanced communication technology. You can\’t see, feel, smell or touch radio waves, but we all know they exist.

Many scientists are now investigating the concept of \’thought waves\’? These are possibly electrical or magnetic fields generated by the brain and these have been scientifically proven to exist. Explaining this in terms for the average person might be a little difficult, but stay with us.

Scientifically, human thought is just a biochemical process of neurons being transferred between different synapses in the brain. However, this transfer of neurons creates an electrical current. Tiny, sure, but measurable. This electrical current also generates a tiny magnetic field. Keep in mind the brain has tens of thousands of synapses firing at any one time.

Is it possible for these bio-electric and bio-magnetic fields to be used by humans to communicate? Are these waves just meaningless static or do they have content equivalent of the brain? Can these brain waves be controlled by mental training? Can the techniques of meditation be used to shape brain waves into communications of significance?

With the magnetic or electrical fields there are problems and these fields can easily be drowned out by the technology of everyday items like televisions, microwaves, refrigerators, stereos produce much bigger electrical and magnetic fields.

There are, however, problems with the electrical and magnetic fields. Unfortunately these fields can be overpowered by everyday technology. For example the microwave, television, refrigerator. These everyday items produce much larger magnetic fields and electrical fields. Is it possible to reach the brains magnetic and electrical fields during an emotionally heightened state, fear, pain or shock? During these emotionally charged times, in the brain, a spiking of bio-magnetic and bio-electric activity is created by neuron synapses firing.

Researchers of parapsychology have documented brief Telepathic communications. One instance is a mothers knowing her child has been hurt, even though they are separated by many miles. This fear and anxiety the parent experiences creates the spiking of neurons and is this brain activity telepathically communicating? Does the relationship between two individuals contribute to telepathy? Or perhaps is this all just coincidence?

Too little scientific evidence exists to prove, without a doubt, telepathy is factual. However, this is gradually changing. More and more studies are being conducted and show humans are telepathic and with proper instruction and training can develop this ability.
